Where the budget actually is

Funded
Hiring moves the budget off the client's balance. It leaves their wallet and does not reach the freelancer.

In progress
The freelancer can see the money is already on the platform. The client cannot pull it back alone.

Delivered
The work is marked delivered. The client accepts and releases it, or opens a dispute and says why.
04
Paid out
Escrow is released. The amount, minus the fee, lands on the freelancer's balance, ready to withdraw.

A dispute never leaves the money in limbo.
When the two sides cannot agree, either of them hands the case over. Escrow stays frozen — neither party can move it. An administrator sees the messages, what was delivered and the exact amount held, and awards it in full, refunds it, or splits it.
